Valley Mills Friends Meeting Hosts 100 Year Anniversary Celebration at our 62nd Annual Chicken Barbeque
Indianapolis, Indiana, August 27th, 2016
A tradition since 1954, the Valley Mills Friends Chicken Barbeque will be held this year on Saturday, August 27th. It will be held at the Valley Mills Friends Meeting located at 6739 Thompson Road in Decatur Township. (Just north of Kentucky Ave.) All proceeds will be used to fund outreach to the George T. Goodwin Community Center, Community Caring and Sharing and Right Sharing of World Resources.
This year’s event is special as we will also be celebrating 100 Years as Valley Mills Friends Meeting. We will have lots of fun and entertaining events throughout the day. Members will be dressed in period “Plain Dress” to represent Quakers from 100 years ago. There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, The Cricket Creek Players Folk Band, Tom Roberts and Friends and much more!
The barbeque features both ¼ and ½ chickens and homemade side items such as baked beans, cole slaw and brownies. Also offered will be rolls, watermelon, pies and beverages. A market area will feature handmade craft items, canned goods, homemade breads, cookies and more.
“Best barbequed chicken I’ve ever tasted! No one cooks it slow like this anymore. I look forward to it every year.” Mike McCormick, C.P.A. and barbeque aficionado.
